Port-au-Prince : Profile

Location

Port au Prince is currently "out of bounds" for civilian aid following the January 2010 earthquake, no boat should go there without prior arrangement.

A convenient place from where to complete formalities is the small marina on Ibo Island (also referred to as Carenage Island), 9 miles north of Port-au-Prince. The marina monitors Channels 16 and 70. A bus runs from there to the capital, where entry formalities are completed in the main harbour. The immigration office is in the Port Authority building.

This marina is protected on all sides and is one of the safest hurricane holes on Haiti's north coast. Water is available on the dock, but no electricity. There is a slipway with a capacity of 25 tons.
