  Zakynthos : Profile

Location

Lying south of Cephalonia and just off the coast of the Peloponnese, this is a most attractive island. Sadly, the much of the Italian architecture which made it such jewel, was destroyed in the 1953 earthquake.

The port of Zakyinthos is towards the southern end of the east coast. This is a good place for shopping and re-provisioning, however has little else going for it.

Clearance

This is a Port of Entry and all authorites are based here.

Docking

Beware of the unlit buoys marking the end of a pipeline SE of the harbour entrance.

The holding is good in this harbour and the most comfortable berth is to anchor in the NE corner clear of the ferry turning area. The NW side of the loading quay is available for yachts but it is neither comfortable nor safe in a strong southerly.

July 2009 - Harbour fee €15, plus €15 for the stamp in your cruising permit, €5 for water (reported to be dirty) and €5 for electricity.

There is no marina.

As with most town quays, rats can be a problem here, so it is important to take the necessary precautions with any mooring lines.
