Gouvia (Corfu) : Profile

Location

This formar fishing port is 5NM NW of Corfu port and is now a popular tourist resort.

Clearance

During the summer (May to September), Gouvia marina can be used as a Port of Entry. The Officials are located on site, next to the marina office.

Due to the cureent Greek fiancial crisis, a crusing permit can only be paid for at the main post office after visiting the harbourmaster, and it is only possible weekdays up to 1300 hours.

Docking

The marina is situated in the south east corner of the bay, Ormos Gouvion, and is the usual mooring option as anchoring is prohibited in the bay.

The navigation lights have been replaced and a night entry is now possible. It is important to follow the marked channel carefully as there are extensive shallows on each side of it.

Moor stern/bows-to where directed by the berthing master and report to the office. Moorings are connected to the quay and a yacht's own anchor should not be used. In places where this is missing (as some of them are!), moor in the usual Mediterranean fashion.

Shelter varies according to position within the marina. Berths on the west side and those to the east of the central pier are less comfortable in strong north easterlies.

Cruisers have reported that this marina is expensive (€69 for a 15m Boat plus €14 for 1000l water in July 2009) and that the service is aloof.

Anchoring
It is possible to anchor in Ormos Kammeno, just to the N of the harbour, in about 5-12m in mud and weed. It is sheltered in all winds except from the SE, but it is advisable to take a long line ashore if possible.

1200 berhs/300 places ashore - Min. depth 3m. Toilet/shower blocks, water and electricity to all berths. Drinking water is available from the special hydrants that work with cards available from the Reception Office. Free water is available although cruisers have reported it as too dirty to use. 65 ton travel hoist, 45 ton crane. Laundry, medical centre, mini-market,Internet access, swimming pool, chandlers and restaurant. All repairs possible, contact the boatyard manager. Regular bus service into Corfu town.
