Location

This island formally housed a French Naval Base which supported the nuclear testing site at nearby Mururoa atoll. It is home for about 1200 people. Rarely visited by yachts as it lies to the soth of most cruising routes.

Position 18°03'90S, 141°0 0'31W. (the pass)

Anchorage off Otepa 18°06'S,140°54'W.

Docking

The wide entrance to the lagoon is at the northern end of the atoll.

There is a very protected area off the village of Otepa where is is possible to tie to the wall. Althernatively, anchor off in 60ft avoiding the coral heads.

Another good anchorage is by the pearl farm at Nake (18°24'S,140°40'W).
