Extend your Caribbean Cruising Season with the Nereid’s Rally to French Guiana

Published 11 years ago, updated 6 years ago

June 1st is the official start of the hurricane season in the Caribbean. As cruising plans reach their conclusion and yachts head south toward the relative safety of Trinidad and Tobago, it’s time for crews to think about hauling out for annual maintenance or a flight back home to visit relatives. Besides, there’s no good cruising until the trade winds return toward the end of November, is there? Nothing could be further from the truth!

The hurricane season in the north corresponds with the dry season in the south. This is the ideal time to head for South America from the Caribbean and this year, a new rally has been organised to showcase two of the Atlantic’s best kept yachting secrets – French Guiana and Guyana.

The Nereid’s Rally setting off from both Trinidad and Tobago in September might be just the thing for cruisers wishing to extend their cruising season.

Courtesy of SBSThe tremendous range of facilities available in Chaguaramas Trinidad are well know within yachting circles, as are the clear waters and white sandy beaches of Store Bay Tobago. With a fabulous send-off set to take place from both venues, thanks to the involvement of Store Bay Marine Services and Yacht Services Association of Trinidad & Tobago (YSATT), this year’s rally is sure to start on a high note.

In Guyana, with strong backing from the Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce and support from the Coast Guard, MARAD, the Defence Force, the Police Force and the Guyana Revenue Authority, a successful first leg is virtually guaranteed. The official welcome, hosted by the Minister for Tourism will take place at Hurakabra Resort (partners for the event).

A seminar for prospective participants is scheduled for the first week of August and last minute registration will be possible up until the 26th of August.
