Clearance

As French Guiana is considered a part of France, European citizens have no problems if they wish to stay for a long time.

The customs office is on Rue de Charles de Gaulle. Your passport should be valid for another 6 months. The friendly officer will make a copy of your passport(s) and ships' papers. The proceedure is quick, simple and free of charge.

NOTE! It is prohibited to anchor in the off-lying islands of Iles du Salut when a rocket is about to be launched into space. This is now an infrequent occurance.

Docking

There are also tidal anchorages in the river. Beware of the strong stream, running at up to 4 knots and make sure you avoid any danger from large vessels by anchoring well out of the channel. Holding in the mud and rocks of the river is surprisingly poor, so make sure you check your anchor is secure and, if possible, put out two anchors allowing for the tidal flow.

One possible anchorage is at the river mouth, in front of the sailing club (CNK), clear of the moorings, by the Hotel de Roche.

Yacht Clubs

The yacht club is a helpful and friendly place. They will ask you for the modest fee of about 1.5 Euro/day/person for the use of the clubs facilities, including a good work shop, BBQ facilities, a bar and limited fresh water.
