Following TC Winston and the significant damage caused to many yacht owners, the Customs team in Savusavu have amended a number of Customs regulations concerning the importing of spares and time permitted in the country, to facilitate affected yacht owners.

We all have been affected from the destructive trail TC Winston has brought and Fiji Revenue & Customs Authority wishes to send our sincere condolences to you all and your families for the loss of life and properties. I must also on the same note commend the solidarity and comradeship which you all have displayed and the support which is outstandingly pointing that we care about each other.

Our Customs Team in Savusavu has taken note of the yachts which have been damaged and a report is being  compiled so that we can assist our fellow yacht masters/ owners.  I did attend to the meeting which was convened at Copra Shed Marina on Sunday 23rd of Feb. As per the meetings I hereby assure you all that we as guardians to the border will facilitate;

A. The importations of yacht spares on duty & Vat free importations (place on board)

1. All yacht owners/masters who intend to import spares will be required to register for a Tax Identification Number (TIN).

2. A BA4 SAD will be prepared and yacht spares will be allowed on duty free basis.

3. All personal importations below $400.00 (Fijian dollars) inclusive of CIF value will be allowed duty free under concession code 212.

B. All yachts affected will also be considered for an extension of six (6) months after the lapse of eighteen (18) months if you submit a report;

1. That your yacht has suffered extensive damage;

2. If you are not able to make your yacht sea worthy for sailing;

3. Any other relevant unforeseen circumstances encountered;

4. Please note that item B points 1 & 2 will be considered on its own merits on case by case basis only.

C. Any yacht which may be now abandoned due to the damage sustain are to be also reported for a needful lawful actions under the wreckage and salvage responsibilities and also in terms with section 29 of the Customs Act.
