 Estonia - Formalities

Clearance

All Estonian harbours are now open to foreign yachts, including the old Russian naval base at Paldiski.

There are no formalities required for yachts arriving from or departing to other countries within the Schengen area and all ports with clearance facilities are "Ports of Entry".

Yachts from outside the Schengen Area are subject to the usual formalities. It is important to check which Estonian ports have clearance facilities.

See this useful web page on www.marinas.nautilus.ee for more information about visiting Estonia by yacht.

Immigration

Estonia is a member of the Schengen Agreement Area. See Noonsite' Schengen page for more details on the immigration rules and a link to the Schengen Visa application form.

Because the Baltic Republics have few diplomatic missions abroad, visas for them can also be obtained from a local agent, such as Tiina Coik, ESAIL, Sport Hotel, Pirita Marina, Tallinn, Estonia. Tel. (372 2) 238 145, Fax 237 945. The ESTUM agency in Helsinki can also issue visas.

Customs

Firearms must be declared.

All valuable equipment on board, which can be removed must be declared.

EU regulations apply concerning temporary importation of yachts. See EU VAT page for more information.

Health

Tick-borne diseases (Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) and Lyme Borreliosis): The number of reported cases has been increasing in Estonia, particularily on the islands. There is no vaccine against the Lyme disease. Always check for ticks.

Restrictions

Holding Tanks is obligatory for Estonian boats. Discharge of sewage is not permitted within 5NM of the coast. Note: Not all harbours have pump out facilities.

Local Customs

When in harbour, crews are expected to be quiet after 23:00.

Pets

Animals coming under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) from within the EU are allowed in and out of Estonia providing they have a Pet Passport, microchip, Health Certificate and Rabies Vaccination Certificate issued by a recognised Veterinarian and have been blood tested as required.

If coming from outside the EU, pets, in addition to the above requirements, must undergo a rabies antibody titration test and must have Health Certificate and owner`s Declaration.

30MILES project – small ports on the eastern Gulf of Finland are developing fast.

The 30MILES international cooperation project was established to develop small ports on the eastern Gulf of Finland, and six Finnish and six Estonian small ports are participating in it. The objective of the project is to harmonise the level of services, security and convenience of use of the ports. The outcome of the 30MILES project will be a ring of quality small ports every 30 miles apart around the Gulf of Finland.
The deadline for completion of the project is May 2018.
