  El Gouna : Profile

Clearance

Abu Tig Marina now a Port of Entry and reported to be a better option than Port Ghalib Marina and is able to apply a new fee system which greatly reduces the Government fees for boats visiting Egypt.

Entry will involve clearing with the usual authorities including Port Authority, Customs, Immigration, etc. You should ensure you get a Cruising Permit from the Port Authority (destination "Hurghada" if you are coming from the North and "Suez" if you are coming from the South). See those ports for more details on clearance. The Shipping Agent will arrange the cruising permit for you.

Once the boat has arrived at the marina, the marina will get an Agent to complete the papers required. Do not enter the marina after dark.

All foreign flagged boats are liable for a Customs Fee, which will be done with the Agent in Hurghada, along with the other paperwork.

Official fees are about US$180 for up to 1 month, and about $280 (plus customs fees) for each 4 month period. This includes customs fee, free pratique; health and port clearance, and Hurghada port fees. It is important to pay in advance for the whole period of your proposed stay, as it may not possible to add additional months.

This permission is valid for all Egyptian ports except Sharm El Sheikh.

Docking

El Gouna is just half an hourīs ride from Hurghada and its international airport. It is a clean, relaxed city with perfect weather all year round. Not too hot in summer due to the constant slight breeze, and warm winters with clear blue skies.

There are two principal marinas here. Abu Tig and, at the southern end of the city, the Abydos marina.

Abydos Marina was established in 1992 and is located in the South of El Gouna, next to the hotel LTI-Paradisio. Facilities are more basic than Abu Tig and there are only a few spaces for visitors.
