  Las Salinas : Profile

Location

Las Salinas de Bani, between Santo Domingo and Azua in the SW part of the country, is a great place for waders and shorebirds. Salinas is an area that includes salt mines, mangroves, sand dunes, and thorn scrub. It is an undeveloped part of the coast, but the Calderas Bay provides good protection.

WARNING: Approaching Punta Calderas on the way into Las Salinas, there is a fish farm or similar structure marked by yellow buoys located at approximately 18 13N 70 34W (February 2010).

Clearance

It has been reported to us that this is now a Port of Entry, however cruisers visiting in February 2010 found there was no immigration based here. Apparently you can make arrangements to clear out for a fee with sufficient notice, however a good command of Spanish would be needed to arrange this.

Next port with immigration - Barahona.

Last updated March 2010.

Docking

If anchoring in the bay, the holding is very good in front of the Hotel Salinas and it is possible to leave the dinghy at the pontoon there.

The depth at the pontoon is 2.5m.
