  Kyrenia (Girne) : Profile

Location

This port is call Kyrenia by Greek Cypriots and Girne by the Turks.

Situated on the north coast of Cyprus, this port has a 6,000 year long history and the remains of countless civilisations. Bounded to the north by the sea and to the south by the greenery of the Besparmak (Fivefinger) Mountain range, it offers the most magnificent scenery on the island.

The beautiful old harbour is dominated by a majestic castle which houses a museum containing the remains of an ancient ship which was salvaged from the sea.

This is a good place to provision.

Clearance

Clearance and immigration proceedures are fast, competent and free of charge (in office hours). The authorities are based in the commercial harbour but the Delta marina office will arrange it all.

The marina office can only get the passports from the Immigration office and permission for departure from the Harbour master if notified early of date and time of departure.

The citizens of European Union nations, Turkey, USA, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Israel, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Australia and New Zealand do not require visa.

All other nationals should check their position with regard to passports and visas with the nearest Embassy or Office of Representative of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Visitors who do not wish to have their passports stamped by the authorities on arrival in North Cyprus may request a stamped visa form which is loosely inserted into the passport and removed on departure.

The Harbourmaster will provide pilotage information on VHF channel 16.

In calm, settled weather it is possible to anchor just outside the marina.
