  Santiago de Cuba : Profile

Clearance

It has been reported as of May 2008 that the marina of Santiago de Cuba, which was closed due to problems with the incinator, reopened in early April and has remained open since. Marina staff are welcoming, although there is a problem with yellow ash from the concrete factory close by.

Call Marina Punta Gorda on Channel 16 and they will give instructions where to anchor or tie up. Officials are based in the marina and will visit the boat for clearance.

Docking

Marina Santiago de Cuba
Avenida 1A, Punta Gorda, Santiago de Cuba
Tel:53 226 91446, Fax:53 226 86108, VHF Channel 16, 72
Located in Gaspar Cove, 15 minutes from Santiago de Cuba, Cuba's second largest city. Water, electricity, telephone, laundry, chandlery, 24 hour security. The marina will help with repairs. Coming alongside the marina's rough concrete pontoons is not recommended. It is better to anchor off and bring the stern to the quay, but holding is very bad and there is a real danger of dragging onto the quay.
