Santa Cruz de Tenerife - Shore Services

Communications

The post and telegraph office is in a large building on the Plaza de Espana in the centre of Santa Cruz and offers all services including fax and telex. Faxes can also be sent and received at Marina Tenerife.

Marina Santa Cruz de Tenerife now has WiFi.  They have added an access point and a couple of vending machines up by the office. It does not work down on the docks.

There is WiFi in the Blue Tile restaurant near the ferry terminal, about 300 metres from the marina.

Several other cafes and restaurants offer WiFi.

Cafe Atlantico, across the street from the Plaza Espana, is reported to have the most consistent WiFi.

Provisions

The market in Santa Cruz, Mercado de Nuestra Senora de Africa, is one of the best in the islands. The tall clock tower of the market can be seen from the centre of town, and it can be reached by a bridge leading across a dry ravine. Open daily from 0700-1500 and 0900-1400 on Sundays. As well as fresh fruit and vegetables there are stalls selling bread, spices, cheeses and hams, fresh meat and fish. There is a supermarket also with a reasonable selection of basic items.

In Santa Cruz the new El Corte Ingles supermarket, in Avenida La Roche, has the best selection.

The nearest supermarkets to Marina Tenerife are in the village of San Andres. There are several wholesalers based in Darsena Pesquera who will sell larger quantities of frozen food to yachts.

There are two hypermarkets, Continente, 3km south on the motorway to the south coast, and Alcampo, 7 km north on the motorway going north from Santa Cruz.

I paid 16.29 Euros per day here for a 10m boat. Water, electricity and WiFi are included in the price. Showers and toilets are clean. Marineros are professional. Receptionists are very helpful. All speak English. The marina has a lot of space. There is a laundry on-site, 5 euros per load.

Stainless steel welding is carried out by "Fred" in marina Santa Cruz. Just ask at reception. He made us some security grills while we were in the marina it took him quite a few trips back and forth to his workshop to get them right but he never complained and the work was completed in good time.

Gas is available in Santa Cruz but you have to find the correct depot, it's hidden up a side street, dead end, near the indoor Karting. About 20 minutes walk from the marina. They will fill Calor bottles.
