San Miguel - General Info

Description:

The distinctive shape of Montana Amarilla (Yellow Mountain) marks the western limit of the large bay. This is a tourist resort close to the southern tip of Tenerife where a range of sporting activities are available.

This port is very convenient for the Tenerife Sur (Reina Sofia) airport with cheap charter-flight connections to Spain, UK, France, Germany and Holland. So a good place to leave your boat for a trip home, however, a hire car would be needed to do major reprovisioning.

Position:

28°01.12’N, 16°36.97’W (marina entrance)

This marina is very unattractive with little to offer locally. Poorly maintained facilities and expensive. If you are slightly over the 12m mark you pay the same as a 14m yacht – €31 per night with dirty toilets, some locked, dirty dusty surroundings and a cavalier “take it or leave it” attitude of the proprietor. We will not be returning in a hurry!

Nice marina, but expensive ATM. We took out E200 and got charged E27 extra!

I spent a few nights in San Miguel de Tenerife in January and February
2017. The noise from the nearby airport is low, nothing much to worry about. I paid 16.10 for one night. The marina is well protected. The
marineros are nice, professional, speak English and are on-site 24/7
    (and they answer the radio).

Facilities are adequate, showers and toilets are clean and tidy. Too bad there is nothing to see around but a
big resort. Also, be careful with the tourist submarine as it moves very slowly.

Very nice and friendly staff. Good paid WIFI in the marina. The marina is to our meaning a little bit isolated and there is no real village nearby. Then you have to go by bus that stops about a 10min. walk away from the harbour. There are some minimarkets between the hotels and apartments at walking distance. It is close to the airport (and the bus goes there) so it is easy to get a rental car from there.

A new sail loft has opened in San Miguel Marina run by the multi-linguistic Thomas Studer. Thomas tells us he has the largest sewing machine in the Canaries. This is important as we were unable to get our jib sail repaired in Lanzarote for this same reason. Thomas did an excellent job on our sail.

He also works with canvas and repaired our canopy, our gangplank cover as well.
Thomas used to be a keen racer and was able to advise and arrange a super rig for our downwind pole.

We berthed ‘Timeless’ at San Miguel Marina for several weeks. We would like to confirm that the marina staff have extremely helpful and caring for all the boats.
    Nothing was too much trouble.

We needed our bow cleats tightened – they were done within 48 hours!
We needed a Wifi signal 24/7 – it was arranged within 24 hours!
There can be a swell within the marina when the wind blows from the south. The marina staff helped us move to a less prone berth.

The wind blew up to 35 knots – the marina staff came around all the boats and adding extra lines to ensure all the boats would be safe.
    ..an excellent team.
