  Arrecife : Profile

Clearance

The capital of Lanzarote has two ports used by yachts. The more northerly is the fishing harbour Puerto Naos, which shares its entrance with the commercial harbour Puerto de los Marmoles, where two pontoons have been installed for visiting yachts. In the old port of Arrecife yachts tie up to the wall inside the breakwater. In the approaches to both ports attention must be paid to the outlying reefs.

Yachts arriving in Puerto Naos from a non-EU port, or with non-EU crew on board, must visit the police office in Puerto de los Marmoles where the captain should take ships papers and passports if arriving from outside of the Canary Islands. The port attendant, Mr. Chou, who lives in the small white building(Tel. 676 825559) by the port gates, will normally drive the skipper there. Mr Chou will advise on the correct procedure those who have already cleared into the Canaries at another port.

As docking facilities are so much better at Puerto Calero, or in the new Marina Rubicon, it is probably better to go directly there and, if necessary, return to Arrecife by taxi to complete formalities.

Docking

Visiting yachts may use the old quay in Arrecife for short stays, otherwise it is better to go 1 mile north into Puerto Naos. Visiting yachts are normally asked to come stern to the southern pontoon. There are also a few moorings. The entire area is expected to be rebuilt in the near future.

Some pontoons have been installed close to the yacht club (just north of the tall hotel tower) but these should only be used at high water or by shallow drafted boats.

Yacht Clubs

Club Nautico de Arrecife: primarily a social club; visiting sailors should call first at the office for permission to use the club facilities.
