Provisions

Provisioning is good, as Brunei has a high standard of living and imported goods are widely available. The best shopping is in the capital BSB, where in the area bounded by Jln Sultan, Jln Pretty, Jln Pemancha and Jln MacArthur, one can find lots of shops. A good open-air market is held each day along the Kianggeh river, in front of a Chinese temple.

There is an excellent supermarket in the YSHHB complex on the bottom floor, which has a good range of imported goods. There are other supermarkets about and some stock imported foods but it helps to have a car to get to them.

The largest shopping mall in Brunei is the recently completed Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Conveniently located below the Yayasan SHHB, is a large underground car park facility giving easy access to the complex.

There are large modern departments stores, local markets, and small roadside stalls where bargaining is commonly practiced. There is a lot of local, regional and overseas food. Fresh meat, vegetables and fruits are air freighted direct from Australia. Malaysians from nearby Miri, Limbang and Labuan come to Brunei to buy these fresh fruit and vegetables.

A full range of consumer goods is available, although the low volume traded means prices a more expensive than neighbours; prices are about equivalent to Singapore.
