Lajes do Pico : Profile
A small port on the SE corner of the island, once centre of the islands whaling industry.
Position 38°23.9N,28°15.4W.
This is not a port of entry.
Entrance into the main harbour is clear if you stay close to the green
light of the jetty. Once in the main harbour, there are dangerous patches of rocks almost everywhere and it is shallow. Care should be taken.
There is a very small marina here, the first pontoon is the only one available for sailboats: just 5 places. Or you can stay at the welcome pontoon just after the dock.
Lajes do Pico Marina Tel:+351 91 72 89 369 Cruisers have reported that this marina is so small nobody is dedicated to the VHF. However, it is likely someone will be waiting on the dock to assist with paperwork. There is no water, or electricity, however in 2009 berthing here was free of charge.
