Clearance

On entering Cairns Shipping Channel, Cairns Harbour Control should be contacted on Channel 16 to give an ETA. Yachts are normally told to go to the Marlin Marina.

Cruisers reported September 2009 that clearance at Marlin Marina was efficient (less than 30 minutes after arrival), quick (everything complete in less than 2 hours) friendly and helpful.

Docking

The Marlin marina has, in the last few years, been rebuilt and extended and provides excelent facilities. It is part of the new waterfront developement known as Cityport.

The Port also manages 65 pile moorings for vessels up to 18 metres in length on the eastern side of Trinity Inlet. In addition, there are areas designated for anchorages adjacent to these piles, as well as off the eastern end of Admiralty Island.

Half Moon Bay Marina, a few miles north of Cairns, provides an alternative base, although it has only basic repair facilities.
