 Pago Pago - Marine Services

Marine Supplies

Normal shopping hours are Mon-Fri 0830 to 1700 and Saturday until 1200.

A limited selection of marine equipment is available from some hardware stores on the customs dock, in town and in the Tafuna Industrial Park, but anything can be ordered and shipped in from the USA. Do bear in mind however that delivery time will depend on what you are ordering and if it can be carried as air or ship freight (see report adjacent).

In general if you use priority mail, most things will arrive within 2 weeks. Defender and West Marine (for example) will ship directly to you. Use the address as follows:
(your name or yacht name)
C/O General Delivery
Pago Pago, AS 96799

Other items (heavier or larger) items can be shipped in, but allow about 2 to 3 months.

True Value: Buses to Leone or Tafuna stop there. For chandlery and hardware products.

The Tool Shop: Right behind Malaloa Marina (dingy dock).

UPS Express Mail works quite well. FedEx and DHL also will ship to American Samoa but are more expensive and not much faster. Priority mail only comes in once a week.

ACE Hardware
On the bus route to Leone
Offers a good selection of not-just-hardware products, has a bit of everything. Whatever is in the nation-wide catalog, can be specially ordered (may take a while). Nadine and Rich, upstairs in the special orders dept. are very friendly and helpful in ordering Marine Goop, and Castrol Super Clean, for the same cost as in the US.

Fuel

If you require 100 gallons or more of fuel, the best company to contact in American Samoa is Clipper Oil - see details below. They supply fuel at the fuel dock in Pago Pago. Their office is located directly across from the Main Dock/Container Yard in the Samoa Sports Building. Contact them on arrival for more information and a quote. They accept wire transfers, cash and credit card.

The fuel dock is available to vessels/yachts taking over 100 gallons of diesel. The draft at the fuel dock is 40 feet or 12 meters, so it’s available at both high and low tide. It was recently dredged to increase the draft.

The normal operational hours for the fuel dock are Monday-Friday from 8AM-4PM and Saturday from 8AM-12PM.

Remember to call harbour control on VHF 16 and ask for permission to move your boat to the fuel dock. Do this just before you are ready to proceed to the fuel dock.

The Port Administration will levy a small charge to vessels/yachts for moving within the harbour to the main dock or fuel dock. The actual costs will vary by vessel and are usually handled by the local agent in port.

For yachts taking smaller quantities of fuel, you can use jerry cans/jugs and load fuel from any gas station near the dinghy dock. Many agencies offer a collection and delivery service for jerry cans for a small fee.

Water

Water can be obtained from taps at the dinghy dock.

The fuel dock does not have hoses small enough for yachts.

LPG (gas)

Tanks can be filled with butane at Origin Energy, in the village of Aua, just beyond the canneries. To get there, take the Aua bus (not to be confused with the Aoa bus). This no problem with transporting propane tanks on the bus.

They also have another depot in Nuuli, on the western side of the island.

US type tanks can also be exchanged in fuel stations and many stores.

MYD Samoa no longer exists. It is now operated by the government. The email"mydyach@yahoo.com" is not answered. Try: shipyardservicesauthority@gmail.com. The phone number 684 644 4123 is still good. Web site is https://www.americansamoa.gov/shipyard for the new American Samoa Shipyard authority.
